The Incredible Hulk

Genre : Action / Sci-Fi / Fantasy
Plot : “You Won’t Like Me When I’m Angry” RAWR <– that’s extra XD

The Incredible Hulk, the second installment of the The Hulk series that first made it golden screen premiere in the year 2003. It is strange that the actors were all completely different unlike all Marvel comics turned movie Spiderman especially was by far the most successful one to date but the 3rd was just failed me. But the significant change is understandable because the The Hulk was a complete failure at least to me because it was death boring, i even forgot how the story line goes already, all i remember was this green thing jumping all over town and smashing every single things he see. Perhaps the best improvisation that has been made was the change in actor for the protagonist, from Eric Bana to Ed Norton. First thing’s first, Eric Bana speaks with an accent which is bad. Secondly, Eric Bana is relatively muscular in body size which is a bad thing because the best way to bring out the very essence of this movie is to show the before and after effects of the Hulk transformation, Ed Norton on the other hand has the boy next door looks and is skinny if compared with Eric Bana and this is perfect. Dr Bruce Banner should be seen as a weak, small and timid person before transforming into hulk and upon transformation he becomes a completely different person. It is very unlikely that a person with Eric Bana’s body will be taunted into a fight.

The 2nd installment continues where Dr. Bruce Banner having been put on the wanted list, fled to Brazil and live a rather subtle and secluded life there and contacts Mr. Blue through a secured line in relation to finding a cure for his Gamma Radiation Cells. For all these years, Dr. Bruce has been successfully in suppressing the aggression the Gamma radiated cells by controlling his temper through martial arts which heavily relies on breathing technique. He works as a day labour at a soft drink manufacturing company and one fine day, he cut his hand and the blood accidentally dripped onto one of the bottles. Although he managed to find the drop of blood on the conveyor belt but he missed the one that dripped into one of the bottles which subsequently was filled with the soft drinks and coincidentally shipped to the United States. Miraculously, Stan Lee who is a regular that always appears in all Marvel Movies happens to be the one who drank that bottle and was send into the hospital and diagnosed of Gamma radiation poisoning and that’s when the Ministry of Defense was alerted and traced the drink back to Brazil and they knew Dr Bruce Banner was there. The whole show revolves around Dr. Bruce Banner running around avoiding detection and finding Mr. Blue who claimed that he could cure him of his disease if he obtain the information regarding how the radiation was induced. The ironic thing is that no matter how hard Dr. Bruce tries to avoid detection, he always get detected -.-

Perhaps the talking point of this show is the introduction of a new character, Emil Blonsky who is an elite soldier that was brought back into service after retirement for its excellence in combat skills and was send to capture Dr Bruce Banner. Blonsky who is a blood thirsty soldier was intimidated when he saw Dr Bruce in his Hulk form and demanded explanation from the General and was given one. He too volunteered to be injected with the serum that claimed will make a perfect soldier out of him and it did as he wanted to have a good fight, he was near invincible with super human abilities when he faced Hulk on the battlefield but was subsequently kicked and had all of his bones in the body fractured to pieces. Somehow, the serum that was injected earlier reacted and he regain fast recovery and returned back to how he was before UNHARMED, no flesh wounds to be seen. Impressed by it, the General suggested that more dosage is to be administered into Blonsky and it proves to be too much for him to handle, Blonsky’s cell is slowly mutating out of proportion resulting in this back bone protruding out making him looked like a dinosaur like creature. Blonsky then found Mr. Blue who kept samples of Dr Bruce’s Gamma radiated cells and demanded that it is to be injected in him and Mr. Blue did. Blonsky growth in size and looked 10 times uglier now but also 10 times more powerful than the Hulk himself. Ever since then, it was a fight between 2 gigantic monsters on the streets of Manhattan.. smashing each other’s head against the wall, throwing huge objects at each other and hurling metal chains.

I like this one more than the 2nd one because it somehow ‘fixed‘ all the wrongs in the first. Basically to sum it all up, what was lacking in the 1st, the 2nd made up for it. The ending was a bit left hanging over as it didn’t show what happened to Blonsky, he was left lying on the floor while the Hulk just continued jumping into exile but it was seen here that the Hulk is not entire of beastly characteristics because he listens and understands when the the girlfriends talks to him. The movie ends by showing that Dr. Bruce sitting in a Yoga style position and the sound of the heart beat beeping faster and faster and at the end, the Hulk was awaken and he smiled cynically. I would interpret that as Dr Bruce finally learned how to control Hulk and used it for his advantage and presumably for the good but we would have to see on the 3rd installment which will be a hell lot more interesting because i don’t know why but if you guys watched Ironman, Tony Stark was featured in the movie as well. It was towards the ending where the General was drinking his sorrows and misery away in a bar and suddenly a dark figure pushes the door opened and walks towards him and it appears to be Tony Stark himself. He offers the General to cooperate with him into forming a some sort of a secret crime fighting organisation. I’ll be waiting for the 3rd, definitely.
