Hancock
Genre : Action / Comedy / Drama
Plot : A generally public despised man with super hero abilities trying to become a better person
Hancock, the movie very much anticipated by many Will Smith fans because he rarely disappoints and evidence such as Pursuit of Happyness & I Am Legend has been proved to be a successful hit in the blockbuster. As such, many is expecting Hancock, the latest movie starred by Will Smith to follow the footsteps of the previous great titles. To my surprise, this movie isn’t as good as what people think it is or at least didn’t came up to my expectations.
John Hancock, looks like a human being but possess supernatural abilities very much like your conventional super heroes in comic books; super human strength, the ability to fly, bullet proof and what not but unlike the usual story line where heroes are liked by everyone John Hancock is a hero that everybody hates. Try to imagine a poor old black dude that has nothing better else to do but to sleep under bus stops and drinks liquor at anytime of the day and joining his sentences with profanities but bestowed upon him super hero abilities. Expect no valuable moral values from this guy. Many might ask, if as such why does John Hancock still goes around preventing crime around the city?
The answer is simple, as different as the script writer wants John Hancock as a super hero he is not an exempted from having a kind heart. He loves his city and he cares about the people around him and will do anything to prevent anyone from getting hurt but he always did it the wrong way. Although he has too not much love for the people around him too but he didn’t have the heart to hurt anyone of them either and always tries to right the wrong. He is an angry man which explains for his act of taking a hijacked car on flight mode before finally landed it stuck on a sharp pole on top of a building destroying almost everything on his way. To simplify things, he saved a million with an expense of 2 million. Somehow John Hancock is not the luckiest person on planet Earth, every single thing that he does would just end up bad but he gets his job done.
The story line begins when Ray Embrey, he person whom he saved from the rail track who also appears to be a public relation officer wanted to return his favor, promised to ‘repair‘ the tainted image that Hancock has and making him a super hero where people would love him and cheer for him. The movie basically shows how Hancock being put through a ‘rehabilitation’ process into becoming a better man and the complications in between and the show ends with him being the hero in everyone’s heart. Imagine Snoop Dogg trying to be a super hero.
I don’t really like this movie very much maybe because i was expecting too much from its trailer and so far, the only movie that hasn’t fail my expectation is only Transformers : The Movie. Everything in the show happened way too fast and even the ending was swiftly reached, there wasn’t any really critical climax in the show. One of the producer of this movie participated in the Spiderman project and therefore you will be able to see similar “Spidy” scenes here especially when Hancock is seen flying through the narrow column of the tall city buildings minus the web effect, pretty much a movie that you’d go to the cinema and watch just because your intended movie has its ticket sold out.
I didn’t believed my friends over at US when they told me Hancock was a letdown until i finally went and watched it myself because i thought to myself “how bad could Will Smith movie get?” and this is really as bad as it could get.
