Cloverfield

Genre : Action / Sci-Fi / Thriller
Plot : Bad ass giant monster walking around town eating people.

From the creators who brought you “Lost” that popular TV series that many talked about. I saw the big cardboard stand up of this movie few months ago in Cheras Leisure Mall but was never really interested in wanting to catch a glimpse of the trailer AT ALL, wasn’t even anticipating. First impression through the poster, i had the impression that it is going to be something like the War of The Worlds or something alike but when i finally took the chance and wasted RM10.00 to support the entertainment industry, they gave me shi- like this. It was my friends idea to watch this movie because they told me the trailer was interesting because it never really showed how the monster looked like and so they wanted to see it so badly they are willing to sacrifice anything. Entering into the 1st minute of the movie, my friend Victor told me that the entire movie is filmed via a camcorder to give audience a first hand experience of the calamity that are bound to take place. My first reaction was “Oh, I Am So Screwed“, reminds me of the infamous “Blair Witch Project” which i hated so much but since i already paid and seated, i don’t have much of a choice.

This movie started off with a group of friends wanted to throw a surprise “sending-off” for a friend and the process was recorded in. Some mild and quite lame jokes was thrown forth which lasted for a long long time, it was so boring i thought i was watching The History Channel. The suspense came after maybe 20minutes into the show when something fell from the sky and caused a huge explosion. Fireballs starting to fly all over hitting anything that crosses its path, everyone ran in chaos and the mass city evacuation order, executed. There and then, the story revolves around 4 people trying to find their way out of this mess they are in when they diverted from the designated military escape route and their accidental encounters with the monster itself. There was no actual release image of the monster as a whole but near the ending of the movie, there was a very clear view of its face and it looks like some kind of amphibian because of the 2 air bubbles that some frogs has located just behind its eyes.

The closest i can get, does resembles Sin from FF-X

This movie has an average storyline to begin with but they somehow managed to screwed it all up with the way it is filmed. The sound effects of this movie is excellent and perhaps that is the ONLY element of the movie that kept me awake through the entire movie. However the movie started to suck when it the movie is half way through because it became predictable and everyone is suffering from major headaches already due to the nature of that movie. In any case, nothing much to brag about in this movie in fact NOTHING other than the sound effects i’ve mentioned above. In short, not the worst movie i’ve seen so far but is definitely one of the worst.

My rating 0 out of 10

On the other hand, i’m really anticipating for the release of “Meet The Spartans”. It’s like your Scary Movie kind so i’m assuming it should be nice considering the that these movies seldom fails. Here’s the trailer, enjoy.
