CJ7
Genre : Sci-Fi / Comedy
Plot : Pretty much a random themed movie

The title of this movie is actually referring to the given name of the alien. This movie to my surprise is quite a bit of disappointment, to me at least. Maybe i was anticipating for it just a little bit too much and expected it to be as good as the previous Stephen Chow series and CJ7 didn’t really quite live up to that expectation that i was hoping to find. The utilization of special effects were generous which explains why it was a bit dull but i guess it cannot be helped since it’s impossible to find alien life forms and enslaved them to act, what more a cute one ^^! However, this movie reminds me of the Scary Movies series where brains are not needed to watch because there are just simply nothing to think of, viewers will be familiarize with scenes from his previous ingenious work of comedies from the likes of Kung-Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer.
Stephen Chow takes up the role of a poor father who works as general labour and lives a pretty much solitary life between themselves due to the reason that they are poor. They thrive on anything they can salvage from rubbish dumping sites and competes to see who kills the most cockroaches for entertainment. but nonetheless they were happy, a self-sufficient ‘family’ if you get what i mean. Despite the fact that he earns barely enough to buy 3 meals per day, he still enrolls his ’son’ into the best school in town where rich entrepreneurs do the same, his son was the object of childhood bullies. One of his son’s friend exhibited a state of the art technology robotic toy dog in school and so after failing to coax his father to buy him one, Stephan Chow, as usual went to the dumping site and found him something that looks like a green elastic ball but little that he know it was an alien.
His son somehow ‘activated’ this ball and CJ7 was born. Filled with greed, his son dreamt of CJ7 being capable of doing anything that he so wishes including building gadgets that enables him to cheat without being noticed and having a pair of rocket powered snickers and allows him to jump sky high, the movie was nonsense ever since. He woke up to realize that the alien was real but it being capable of building such things are just imaginations, disappointed and angered, he threw CJ7 away into a rubbish bin and was taken away and magically ’salvaged’ back by his dad who was amazed that his son and that alien life form knew each other. They never did knew that CJ7 has the ability to fix damaged objects of any sort including whether it’s organic or not organic and everytime CJ7 does that, it grows weaker. The movie reached its climax when his father, Stephen Chow died in a site accident and after doctors certified his death CJ7 uses its power and successfully revived him and that also caused CJ7 its life.
There’s nothing much to brag about this movie because more or less it’s a combination of scenes and ideas from Stephen Chow’s work which accounts for the yawns i credited. I don’t know but to me it somehow reflects to me that he is running out of comedy ideas. Wouldn’t recommend to go watch in the cinema.
My Rating : 3.5/5
