Alvin and the Chipmunks

Genre : Comedy / Family / Animation
Plot : Based on the 1980s cartoon series about a music group of chipmunks comprised of mischievous group leader Alvin; tall and quiet Simon; and chubby, impressionable Theodore.

To my amazement that this movie isn’t really that bad than i initially thought it would be. This is another classic cartoon turned big screen movie and to be honest, i wasn’t really a big fan of Alvin and the Chipmunks even when i was small but i would still turn on the TV early morning and watch it on TV3 at around 1000hrs while having my breakfast. It is entertaining because it’s more to the musical side of life and maybe because that was what kept me wandering whether the animators can put both the animation and the music together good. I must say, they have convinced me. I was a bit reluctant when my girlfriend suggested but thank gawd it came through =)

The storyline is pretty much the same old chronological order, singing chipmunks got bored with life, chipmunks escapes forest, chipmunks find human, human exploits chipmunks and major misunderstandings and then reunited back. One word sums it all, they all live happily ever after. There isn’t much meaning to this movie but it i’m sure that isn’t why the reason this animated film was produced, it was meant to entertain and it did. The chipmunks were beautifully designed and carved out in detail. I personally like to watch movies that doesn’t have the element of anger when the evil ones takes over the story and even if it has, it’s one of those stupid evil people who does stupid things which will make me laugh because i find no reason why i want to get angry when watching a movie that’s supposed to be stress relieving.

We have Alvin, the leader of the chipmunks who happens to also be the lead singer of the pack and then Simon who is the intelligent ones but sometimes is as equally as stupid as Theodore who is the youngest in the pack. He is perhaps the cutest and did the least so to speak because of his size and his young mentality whereby his presence is just purely for laughs and for people to adore. The build up of this movie was fine with plenty of moments to laugh in between. Coordination between the human actors and the animated chipmunks were great as, the eye contacts were almost real. The only thing that i didn’t like was when the credits were rolling out, the antagonist recruited a bunch of real chipmunks and forces them to sing in front of the piano. The chipmunks can be seen very obviously that it was being fed with something because of the hand movements, i’m not really a person who will chase for perfection but i don’t know why when it comes to animated films i will try my best to find the flaws. It is safe to say that i wasn’t even paying attention because i was to deep enjoying the movie.

Overall, it’s a nice movie and i’ll definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to have a good laugh. Family show o.<b Excellent music soundtracks too which is to my surprise because of the high pitched chipmunk voices.

My rating : 4/5
