Dave Koz – Careless Whisper (feat. Montell Jordan)

Lyrics

I feel so unsure

As I take your hand

And lead you to the dance floor

As the music dies

Something in your eyes

Calls to mind a silver screen

And all it’s sad good-byes

[Chorus]

I’m never gonna dance again

Guilty feet have got no rhythm

Though it’s easy to pretend

I know you’re not a fool

Should’ve known better than to cheat a friend

And waste the chance that I’d been given

So I’m never gonna dance again

The way I danced with you

Time can never mend

The careless whispers

Of a good friend

To the heart and mind

Ignorance is kind

There’s no comfort in the truth

Pain is all you’ll find

[Chorus]

Never without your love

Tonight the music seems so loud

I wish that we could lose this crowd

Maybe it’s better this way

We’d hurt each other with the things we’d want to say

We could have been so good together

We could have lived this dance forever

But now who’s gonna dance with me

Please stay

[Chorus]

Now that you’re gone

Now that you’re gone

Now that you’re gone

Was what I did so wrong, so wrong

That you had to leave me alone

There are plenty of cover versions of this classic but this has definitely got to be one of my favorite, i always wanted to put this up as one of the featured videos but i never failed every time to forget about it and now that i still remember, i want to take this opportunity to share this brilliant cover remake of the 1984 classic.

I’ve always like the original one sang by George Michael (gay people are just amazing singers, Elton John for instance). I remember when i was younger i’d hum to the saxophone tunes of this song and sway gently left and right and as i grow older and i finally get the hang of using the intarweb, i started searching for its lyrics and then started my very amateurish singing talent XD Everytime i listen to this song it projects to me a very sentimental feel and it gets me into the romantic mood. It’s just sounds so good that you’d want to listen to it over and over again once it starts playing.

I can’t really find the explanation of the song lyrics through the intarweb but i always like to do my own interpretation of things.

[Para I]
The author was unsure of whether or not to invite the girl that he loved to a dance because he didn’t want to feel the pain of separation but nonetheless he took the chance.

[Chorus]
The girl whom he loved so happens to be his friend’s girlfriend and he feels bad for making out with her as it amounts to cheating. The author tries to conceal his feelings for her but he knows that she can see right through him. He regretted for seizing that opportunity but he didn’t want to forget about what happened either.

[Para III]
It would seem that the author told his friend that he confessed to his girlfriend without giving thoughts to him (“careless whisper”) and there’s nothing that he can do to make things right again. It would be best if everyone could just forget about what has happened but it’s unlikely to happen.

[Para V]
The author wants some silent moment alone with this girl so that he could confessed to her properly but after careful thoughts, he decided that it would be better for the both of them to keep their feelings to each other. This paragraph also tells us how badly this guy wants this girl.

[Para VI]
The epilogue, it would seem that the girl was disappointed and left him because of his cowardly actions of not daring to confessed openly.

One word, this is one hell of a good song. The version that was on youtube.com is different from the ones i ripped from the CD. The latter definitely sounds better with extended solo saxophones tunes. Every time i listen to this song, my heart died once.
