Breaking The Night
Failed in attending tutorial classes again -.- i don’t know why but it’s like there is an invisible force preventing me from attending these classes. Unlike in Part II where i felt there’s a sense of obligation and responsibility that’s pushing me. I guess my mandates are over T___T i hope this is not true =’(
Anyway, i went and exchange the ticket the postal office left me for the parcel that was meant to be delivered to my doorstep yesterday morning.
Very cutely wrapped by the sender and and postal office. The attached slip shows what time the package was received by the postal office and i must say, the sender is quite an efficient person. I banked in the money at about 0900hrs that morning and it clearly shows the package was received at 1000hrs.
I’ve always like people who take small little details into consideration and try to make the most out of it and this particular sender, instead of just chucking the item into the box, he stuffed some crumpled newspaper to fill in the empty spaces in between to prevent the item suffering from any unwanted damage.
So, what the hell is this item i am talking about?
A pair of Osram Night BreakersTADA! and according to sources, the Night Breaker is the highest and probably brightest line of bulbs that Osram has for automobiles and i’ve been checking out reviews and feedbacks from around the intarweb and find it quite convincing and so i decided to try them out because ever since i got Forbidden, i have been searching high and low for a good set of lighting system and when i finally installed my aftermarket HID kit and after countless hours of shedding blood and tears making a perfect shield for the bulbs. JPJ decided to just implemented a mass ban on such usage and there goes my RM250.00.
… and i owed it all to those heroes who opted for the 6000k China made kits who obviously have no idea the concept of lumens.
Got this pair for RM95.00. You must be wondering why is there a RM5.00 in the picture. Story telling time.
Seller’s trading account is Maybank and i had problem depositing RM95.00 exactly into the deposit machine because it doesn’t accept RM1.00 notes and RM98.00 was all i have with the RM8.00 were all RM1.00 notes. Luckily found myself a man who was depositing machine to exchanged one piece of RM5.00. Thought i was in luck, put the RM5.00 in and was rejected.
I repeated the deposit process 7 times before i came to realized that there was a notice notifying that the machine does not take in RM1.00 and RM5.00 which i conveniently missed. Out of wits and no CIMB around, withdrew RM10.00 from the Maybank teller machine and incurred a RM1.00 service charge. Paid the seller a total of RM100.00 instead.
Told the seller about my predicament and he suggested to me to either do it over the counter when the bank opens
OR
bank in RM100.00 and he include the change in the parcel when it is delivered to me. Took this option and lived happily ever after.
To be honest, a pair of Night Breakers at this price is quite bargain. I bought my Osram Cool Blue 4300K at RM120.00 and all i can is that the output isn’t at all desirable which is why i’ve been searching for alternatives. The Cool Blue is purely for cosmetic purposes only. I know that there are many China imitation bulbs which bears the name of famous brand but the one i got has the product code on it and it can be traced to check whether it is original or not from the Osram website.
Night Breaker promised that the the beam can now be thrown further compared to normal bulb, i don’t know how are they going to achieve this and i have yet to witness this myself but i don’t think they dare claim the impossible. The 10% whiter light is due to the thin layer of blue film tinting around the bulb itself and i know some of you who had an experience with such blue tinting bulbs will definitely noticed that it can only result in less light but why Osram said that the Night Breaker can produce 90% more light, they have their own way (read on below)
I don’t know what the clock symbolized but i guess it is to indicate that the lifespan of the Night Breaker is half of that a standard bulb would possessed and this is true because the filament used here is different.
Nothing unusual about the bulb but if you look closely, you’ll notice something is amiss!
Did you see that there’s one segment where the bulb film tinting didn’t apply?
That place is where the light is emitted and the fact that Osram knew that lights through any filter will only restrict output and not increase and hence leaving the source of light unrestricted but covered the rest with the blue film tinting, giving maximum light output performance and at the same time maintaining the cool Xenon light appearance.
This is the Osram Cool Blue 4300k, my previous light bulb which i have now replaced. This is definitely not the bulb for you to buy if you are a performance orientated person like me. Ever since i installed this bulb, i’ve tried so many possible ways of combination of light alignments to search for which will give the maximum spread of output. I found it but sad to say, it’s very disappointing, the output is only visible when there’s no other source of light around. Don’t get me started on the performance during rain *yawns* In other words, only in complete darkness that this bulb will be able to shine. Moral of the story is, full blue film tinted bulbs is a no no. Such bulbs are only recommended for foglamps.
Installation takes about 5 to 10 minutes but because the pin on the right side headlamp has broken, it took me about 45 minutes to make sure the bulb is secured within the reflector. This is the before and after Night Breakers with the before equipped with Cool Blue 4300k. As you can see that the Night Breaker has a more intense light output and the color is warmer due to the fact that the source is not restricted with the blue film tinting.
I cannot deduce anything from this yet until and unless i bring it out on the road for a test drive but i think i can conclude on a few things. The light is whiter compared to standard halogen bulbs but warmer compared to Cool Blue 4300k, the light is definitely more intense hence more light compared to standard halogen bulbs and if the light is intense enough then i think it can be safely assume that it can be aligned to throw the light beam further (yet to be confirmed)
I will make sure i make an entry updating on the performance of this bulb.
